About the Center The
Center for Watershed Stewardshipis located at 227 East Calder Way in downtown
State College, located just south of the main PSU campus. This facility houses
the Center's administrative offices, student computer lab and studio space, reference
library, group presentation and classroom area, and a conference room.
The Center is administered by a three
person staff consisting of director
Lysle Sherwin, associate director
Andy Cole, and office manager
Pam Gudeman. An executive committee, comprised of representatives
of the Center, PSU
Department of Landscape Architecture and School
of Forest Resources, The Heinz
Endowments, watershed and community organizations, government,
and business and industry, provides oversight on Center program
and policy development. In addition, an advisory committee
periodically reviews progress and provides input to the Center
in carrying out its educational programs. Resident or visiting
faculty experts are also invited annually on a part-time basis
to supplement the expertise of the Center faculty to enhance
the educational program.
State College is located in the Spring
Creek watershed, which is part of the Bald Eagle Creek drainage
area (USGS
Cataloging Unit 02050204). Bald Eagle Creek drains into
the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, which joins the
Susquehanna River and flows into the Chesapeake Bay. Spring
Creek watershed is approximately 143 square miles in size
and is known for its outstanding wild brown trout populations
in Spring Creek. Land use in the watershed represents a mix
of predominantly urban, forest and agricultural activities.
