· Soil pollution and degradation
· Remediation of contaminated, disturbed, and degraded soils
· Risk assessment
· Brownfields as recoverable ecosystems
· Recovered brownfields as places

Influences of Forest Bio-Physical Characteristics on Percieved Fire Hazard
Coordinated research projects at the University of Arizona and Pennsylvania State University seek to: 1) gain a better understanding of the influence of different biophysical characteristics of Midwestern coniferous forest types on perceptions of fire hazard and on visual preferences; and 2) to explore and evaluate the multi-dimensional hazard/value tradeoffs represented by alternative fuel reduction and post-fire restoration treatments appropriate to managing "buffer areas" in fire-prone ecosystems in the North Central United States.
