| Lincoln
Highway Heritage Corridor Project (2003) |
| The client,
the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor, has identified
issues that relate to parks along the road, community
planning issues, architectural interpretation, symbols
and educational strategies. An interdisciplinary group
of students (landscape architecture, art history, history)
are currently studying the cultural landscape resources
of this historic road in two Pennsylvania counties.

| Penns Valley/Brush
Valley, Centre County, PA (2000, 2002) |
| In consultation with
Jackie Melander, Dir. Center County Historical Society,
components of a cultural landscape report for the Valley
were prepared in various student-based settings, such
as regional studio (LA 427) and the Department’s
course offering on historic issues in landscape architecture
(LA 460W) (on-going). |
| Historic
Rural Pennsylvania Project (pending) |
| The Center consulted
with Sally McMurry, history department, in outlining a
plan and writing a grant to provide a context for the
historic preservation of agricultural resources, including
buildings, structures and landscape elements. |
| Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller
National Historic Park, Woodstock, VT (2001) |
| A team
of Landscape Architecture students studied the Park and
proposed a variety of approaches that might be taken to
interpretation of the historic forest. |
| The Village
of Hopwood, PA (1998, 1999) |
| A two-semester project
in which students inventoried natural and cultural resources,
and wrote community design guidelines that respected the
historic character of the village. The client was the
National Road Heritage Park. |
| Centre Furnace
Mansion Landscape Interpretation (1999) |
| A team of interdisciplinary
students (landscape architecture, architecture, communications)
studied historic components of the Centre Furnace Mansion
landscape, and offered direction for the development of
interpretive experiences for the Centre County Historical
Society. |
| Lincoln Neighborhood,
Gary, IN (1998) |
| Students prepared
a National Register District Nomination and design guidelines
for the historic Lincoln Neighborhood. |
| Fort Hunter
Historic Site, Harrisburg, PA (1998) |
| Students provided
design ideas for rehabilitating this historic landscape. |
| East Broad
Top Railroad Project (1997, 1998) |
| The Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania has appropriated $ 30 million for the
restoration of the East Broad Top Railroad. The East Broad
Top is the only extant narrow gauge railroad east of the
Mississippi. Two classes of landscape architecture students
worked on the project. The Center continues to consult
with the Allegheny Heritage Development Corporation as
physical design ideas are explored. |
| Eastwood
Cemetery, Lancaster, Massachusetts (1996) |
| The historic fabric
of an 1873 Horace Cleveland cemetery is being threatened.
The Center has consulted with the local preservation organization
about the problem and submitted a report outlining a course
of action. The next step is a management plan. |
