Research Centers
The Center for Studies in Landscape History

Background
The Center for Studies in Landscape History was officially established by The College of Arts and Architecture in 1994. Its mission is two-pronged:

  1. to promote an interdisciplinary dialogue among scholars of landscape history, and
  2. to provide service to communities in the Commonwealth and beyond through consultation and service-based learning activities. Its philosophy is the inherent value in combining scholarship and practice.

There are two administrative bodies associated with the Center. One is an international advisory board that gave support and advice upon the Center’s inception, and continues to lend support to various Center activities. Another is a Penn State Advisory Council. Both bodies are represented by scholars from geography, art history, history, landscape architecture, environmental history, and public history.

FUNDING SOURCES FOR PROJECTS
Through roughly 15 external and internal revenue source, the total grant money raised for the above-listed Center-related activities has been $147,715.50 (as of March 2003)
