About
The studio-based teaching environment, in addition
to a relatively low student/teacher ration allow for a highly personal
approach to teaching.
Our program is served by sixteen faculty. Of these,
12 are full-time appointments, 4 are cross-appointments with allied
departments (architecture and forestry), 2 are adjunct professors,
and several are sessional instructors.
A variety of disciplines are represented across
the design arts, humanities and sciences. While the majority of
faculty have professional backgrounds in landscape architecture,
a number also carry credentials in architecture, urban and regional
planning, geography, ecology and historic preservation. The individual
profiles highlight the qualifications and scholarly interests of
each faculty member in the department. Students are encouraged early
on in the program to get to know faculty and become familiar with
their research and creative agendas. While faculty engage in a wide
range of scholarly activities, several distinct areas of emphasis
have evolved in recent years, with each accommodating graduate student
research and special projects:
Furthermore, since interdisciplinary interaction is a crucial component
of research and creative activities these days, graduate faculty
have formed strong alliances with faculty in other departments throughout
the campus including Geography, Forestry, Ecology (inter-college
program), History, English, Civil and Environmental Engineering,
Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Biology, Visual Arts, Art
History and American Studies, among others. Faculty strive to include
graduate students in trans-disciplinary activities whenever possible. |
