Timothy Murtha
has a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Penn State and until recently
he taught at Westchester County College in New York. He works
in landscape archaeology and specializes in the application of
new technologies to solving old questions about land-use practices.
Much of his field work has been in Central America, Guatemala,
Belize and the Yucatan of Mexico and has focused on the agricultural
practices of the Mayan people and the development of an understanding
on the relationship between farmers, farming practices and the
power structure of the Mayan people. Currently, he is participating
in an NSF-funded study of the agricultural subsistence of the
Orkney Islands, to the north of Great Britain. Tim will be teaching
regional design and developing new modules for our design implementation
sequence to bring the powerful tools he uses to our students.
