Graduate students may be allocated space in the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (S.A.L.A.) for a maximum of four consecutive semesters (not including summers), whether the student is full or part-time. In light of limited space and the yearly cycle of new students, second-year students are asked to vacate their desks by July 1 following their fourth semester. Beyond this point, students still finishing their research or course work should consult their primary advisors about the possibility of securing space elsewhere. The department, however, is not obligated to provide such space.
All students on campus may make use of any of the more than thirty campus computer laboratories operated by the Center for Academic Computing (C.A.C.). E-mail and Internet access is provided through a C.A.C. Access Account (http://cac.psu.edu/internet/ accessaccount/html). Computers supplied with basic word-processing and e-mail software are provided in the S.A.L.A. graduate student space. Higher-end computers and peripherals are available, upon request and when available, in the faculty research office and through the Stuckeman Center Lab. Students whose research depends upon the Stuckeman Center for Design Computing may, in addition, be granted special access to advanced computer technologies.
The research office is intended for the use of faculty and designated research or teaching assistants. If space permits, graduate students may use the office for their own M.L.A. research on a temporary basis, subject to vacating on short notice.
A telephone for on-campus and local calls is provided in the S.A.L.A. graduate student space. Students must use calling cards or cell phones for long distance service.
The use of the departmental photocopy machine is not permitted for graduate student's research work . The only exception is for T.A.s using the machine for T.A.-related purposes under faculty direction.
Departmental supplies are off limits to all students , except in the case that T.A.s are specifically directed by faculty to access these materials.
