An introduction to design theories and principles of landscape architecture. Landscape architecture majors only.
Prerequisite: LArch 121S, A&A 101, A&A 102S, A&A103, A&A 104.

LArch 221 - Design Theory Seminar
(1 Credit)
An Inquiry-based reading and discussion of design theory literature relevant to the focus and content of LArch 211.
Landscape architecture majors only.
Prerequisite: LArch 121S, A&A 101, A&A 102S, A&A103, A&A 104.
Concurrent: LArch 211
LArch 231 - Intro to Design Implementation
(2 Credits)
Introduction of basic principles and tools supporting landform data, site systems, grading, visualization representation and site circulation. Concurrent: LArch 251
LArch 241 - Vegetation Ecology and Landscape Design
(3 Credits)


Application of ecological knowledge to landscape design and management; emphasis on the use of plant communities in contemporary design. LArch or Landscape Contracting Majors only.
LArch 251 - Visualization I
(2 Credits)
Advanced visualization principles and techniques; computer-aided design, image processing, color theory and application; visual thinking and problem solving.
For Landscape Architecture majors only.
Prerequisite: A&A 102S, A&A 104 Concurrent: LArch 231

CAS 100 - Effective Speech
(3 Credits)

Principles of communication, implemented through presentation of speeches, with some attention to group discussion and message evaluation.

LArch 212 - Design & Theory II: Introduction to Issues of Place
(4 Credits)
Studio design addressing issues of nature and culture; application of theories, processes, and presentation methods learned in course and concurrent courses. LArch majors only.
Prerequisite: LArch 211, LArch 221, LArch 231, LArch 251.
Concurrent: LArch 222
LArch 222 - Design Theory Seminar
(1 Credit)

Inquiry-based reading and discussion of design theory literature relevant to the focus and content of LArch 212. Prerequisite: LArch 211

LArch 232 - Design Implementation I
(3 Credits)
Principles of landform design and grading, including the use of landform as a design element, visualization and representation of landforms, methods for integrating site and structure, standards for grading and drainage, and the development of detailed grading plans.
Landscape Architecture majors only.
Prerequisite: LArch 212, LARch 222, Math 026 or higher.
LArch 272 - Regional Field Trip
(1 Credit)
A week-long class trip to visit recent projects, offices, and outstanding historical developments.
Prerequisite: LArch 241

(3 Credits)
